Paj Nyiag Txoj Hmoo | Starring Dib Thoj and Kos Lis | Directed by Moua Lee
You hear the sharp blade of the knife cutting across crisp rice fields as the scene opens up to a young woman in the middle of the rice fields in an open sky atmosphere. Weakly, she coughs as the world spins around her and she faints. Hours later, she regains consciousness and slowly stands up and faces her fate.
“Paj Nyiag Txoj Hmoo” introduces us to our heroine, Paj Nyiag, who loses her mother from a tragic death and her father due to her being born a “daughter.” The heart felt words of Paj Nyiag as she sits quietly overlooking the sky is how much she misses her mother and that only her pillow knows her pain and tears. In this small scene, we are already tied to the pain and tears of her. We are sucked into her world by allowing ourselves to feel her pain.
“Paj Nyiag Txoj Hmoo” starring Dib Thoj and Kos Lis, directed by Moua Lee, is a film about the discovery to the belief in yourself and the ability to forgive others to live a truly happy life. If you ask a few people if they’ve seen “Paj Nyiag Txoj Hmoo,” they might ask you by saying, “You mean the Christian film?” The truth is that this isn’t a film about religion. It’s a film about finding the strength in yourself to see past the hurt and pain others do to you. You must learn to read between the lines in order to understand the deeper meaning. This is that kind of understanding.
